My Vintage Collection: Time for some Housekeeping - or not?

From Jadedgem, October 28, 2014:

Actually it's trapping me into buying even more gear... 😇

That's the spirit. Out with old in with the new. Buy more new stuff and throw all the old black faced vintage amps out.. Out to me offcourse.

From Atjan, October 28th 2014:

Ahem, Eric, seeing as you're feeling guilty for buying that Sony set, I'm in the market for a nice vintage amp / receiver that is working very well. "Sacrificing something for the arrival of the Sony set will keep things in balanced and you won't need to build another room for the extra stuff. 😝 I'm planning to do a bit of a vintage set in my lounge. Got the tt and the speakers sorted. All I need is the amp. ;)

🍿

Watch this space ..
And after that all you need will be the reel to reel
And some conversation piece
And a record cleaner
And a tape
And a tuner
And a stand
And nos cables
And ..........
Mayne 2 of each cause they are so rare 😝

Thank you @JohnDoe, I did have some help from other good folk down your part of the world too! :)

I have yet to add a much-loved Sony Sony TA-E77ES Pre-Amp bought from a well-known member of the forum whom you may well have heard of. I need to transfer all the beautiful Sony ES range on to a Sound Structures stand that I bought off-forum and this beaut of a pre-amp will look Oh, so good! together with the matching TA-N77ES Amp & ES CD Player & Tuner.

I believe you have some vintage gear in your possession as well, would be great to see this.

Because, as we all know... Nothing beats Vintage! 🌞

Those units will look great on the sound structures stand. When done please post a pic!☺

Back to the topic.

I found a couple of better pics on the Sansui TU-666 that was destined for the rubbish dump by its previous owner. I met him by sheer chance and rescued the unit, which is performing happily now but needs the stereo globe replacement still.

Nine years later and this unit is still doing sterling duty in the workshop, coupled to an ancient Sony TA-70 in the workshop.

How about some vintage Pioneer goodies...

The Dynatape label "C1, C2, C12, C13" refer to caps that I changed in Nov 2006. I used to label changes I made because one forgets what was done and when. This is a habit I tried to instill in myself but had forgotten about it recently - so a good reminder to start doing so again.

Bird's nest wiring typical of the Jap equipment at the time, but still remains "Oh, So Beautiful!"

Me, from November 4th, 2014:

When you've been a good boy all year round, come Christmas, one is looked after!

Had a technical enquiry from a member here today about the Mullard 5-20s today so went and took some pics.

They are in storage, but nicely so - unlike the other stuff in storage in the same room. The layout is my own, I didn't really fancy the original Mullard layout.

The room is fairly packed and I could not get close enough for a better pic.

These last two pics are somewhat disgusting and I might remove them later - I'm rather embarrassed by this haphazard collection.

And then I found an old Sansui 210 Receiver that I had forgotten about...

It needs a tuning knob though, will have to look for something suitable.

Lol...
We can only hope FD really does some housekeeping Andre.

Mr FD.
My throughline tuner arrives yesterday from Matt, similar to the one on your first pic on this thread.
Can you give some tips on this amazing device pls ?
I am wondering what antenna you use as I see your magic eye is kit to almost meet in the middle in your pic...I could hardly get the lights move half as far too and bottom closing in on each other.
I also turned on AFC as soon as I was happy with a channel as the magic eye switch off when doing this and I guess I am hoping that might reserve the magic eye Light/globe...
Do you know how the AFC actually work other then invoking that light on the magic eye ?
And I see you also set it in distant .. I find local a great deal softer , how does that local and distant work ?
work ?
I also just connected a cheap internal( inside the house ) antenna and it only has two spade plugs , which I connected to the common and the 300 ohm amp...

Tx in advance for any tips /help sire...

I desire only one amp he has.....au111....just cant find a hilux to offer:)

He has 3 of those au-111's. One for you and one for me and one for him. Now just to convince him. I would like all his au triple digits amps.

@jadedgem, Nov 5th, 2014:
There is one Sansui amp that beat the socks off anything in its class and price range. Its the au-505.

Fd doesn't know this but he inspires me a lot. One day I want to have a Sansui collection like his. I think those few pics of the au-111 won't cut it. We want more and some reviews.

Its just the Hilux part I don't get. Pommies and Boere bakkies.

😂😂😂

I was wondering whether anyone would even notice it! Ditto the Quad tuner...

You will note it is safely packed with EMPTY boxes packed on it, just so no one would ever do the unthinkable. I am usually the only one who ever goes into that store room, so any damage to it is highly unlikely. The TD150 is complete in all respects and in very good nic, I should actually pull it out one day and take some pics of it.

My sad story is I have three dedicated workbenches in three different rooms to repair/restore all my projects and yet I never get round to doing as much as I would like to - work tends to interfere. I should have been triplets.

Perhaps I should take pics of the workbenches sometime, with all the WIP, but that would just lead to heartbreak.
