What's on the Turntable

It actually took me a while to discover what was on your turntable, I was so intrigued with looking at the equipment - and that magnificent lamp! 😄

The lampshade is new, the branch and base were assembled by grandfather, likely 70+ years ago. It's quite interesting, such an old lamp carries a wifi enables multicoloured led globe 🤣

I like the SA production! I used to bypass most music from the apartheid era, but now I appreciate the humanity, dedication and skill to the craft more. Now I bypass AI music:-)

Posts seem to be few and far between, so I will change the trend. A great album and a great copy, pressed in the Netherlands, sleeve printer in Germany. But man, who did the quality control? The label on Side 2 is way off centre, right into the dead wax and over the runout groove.

As a kid, I loved watching the Vinyl LP record press that used to be displayed at the Rand Easter Show, they inserted a blob of plastic into the press, then all sorts of steam sounds and seconds later out popped a full LP record. I haven't been to the Show in years but I doubt this exhibit exists nowadays, more's the pity.

Ah, the magic of vinyl records! I still can't get my head around the fact that this format can even remotely work. Just look at the speed the stylus travels through the groove, especially with the first few tracks.

Yep, it is fascinating and very satisfying to build up a decent record-player system, I still have my original 301 turntable, SME 3102 arm and Shure V15 cartridge that I bought aeons ago when still at school. Each was priced at about R100 (or might have been ₤100, can't remember) brand new. I saved up the cash by doing radio repairs as a teenager, those days mainly valve radios.
