Tonight, David Kramer and a cold beer to celebrate getting this beautiful little 4W stereo valve amp unit going today - playing beautifully!
This, truly, is all I need to be happy...

It is another AKAI 1710 R2R left-over after donating tape heads and motor to another machine (not my project). Valve rectified and 1 x 12AT7 and 3 x 6AR5 valves.

And earlier this week:

"It’s the West Coast rule: no music until I have either built, fixed up or even bought an old amplifier. And until I have bought a few recordings to listen to. Well, it has taken 6 days of deafening silence, but here we are! A beautiful little TOKYO SANSUI Electric Co. LTD mono valve amp, the PM-900, singing like a bird and Johannes Kerkorrel’s “die ander kant” in my CD tray."

First thing my eyes fell on was naturally the Sansui PM-900, Never heard of it before, so it;s a complete radio and not a tuner? Guessing from the '60s - valve radio?

Luvverly!

Oh, and the music might be OK too, I was too busy drooling over the PM900!

Hi Eric, yes, a beautiful little mono valve receiver from 1958. Cleaned up, necessary caps replaced and a new grounded power cord fitted. She sings like a bird! 14 watt, and: Vacuum tube 6AQ8x4, 6BE6x1, 6BA6x3, 6AL5x1, 12AX7x1, 6BQ5x2, 6CA4x1 and 6ZE1x1.

Can't remember when SA started with FM broadcasts, I thought it was during the 60s, but you're right, I think it was in the mid to late 50s - Sheesh! - so long ago!

I remember a kid I had one-valve TRF receiver, that thing had amazing clarity and audio quality, easily compared to FM audio quality. We were too porr to afford an FM receiver.

Bring 'em on, we need to see what else you have stashed away!

Tonight, Eric Clapton. Howdy Pilgrim!mullard-322-play.jpg

Oh, and I have just finished building this dual mono Mullard 3-3 valve amp this morning, using an old PYE chassis, transformers and only bits and pieces from my parts bin. What can I say: it sounds absolutely divine! Low-power single-ended EL84 goodness, in stereo. :-)
