My son bought a pair of these things a couple of years ago. In the first year one of the earpods just stopped working. He took it back to the iStore and they replaced them under warranty with new ones.

Now out of warranty the left one just stopped working. I have tried all the recommended options for troubleshooting to try and revive it (it does charge to 100% but remains silent when placed in the ear) but it will not work.

Took the set to the iStore this morning and the chap behind the desk told me that it will cost R2000 to replace the defective one.

How are Apple allowed to keep ripping people off like this? No ways these products are worth the asking price in the first place and now when they stop working they try to rip you a new one.

so yourself a favour Google search “Sony WF-1000XM4 battery drain”
Sony in a software update after 2 years makes the right earbud rendered basically useless where the earbud doesn’t last longer than 40mins when should be 8 hours +.

Globally after much arguing they would replace them in our out of warranty either at no charge or for a cost. Personally I paid Sony 75€ to replace the right earbud in my set for a new one. So the right side earbud is now only weeks old. But cost me.
You could order the batteries from China and then replace them yourself at the risk of potentially breaking them rendering them utterly useless.
Mind you a pair of these Sony earbuds are north of R5k and they all have the same affliction

Apple are not in anyway the only companies behaving this way.

It's disgusting.

Personally I still use a +10 year old pair of wired Sennheiser in ear phones when I want to listen to music while cycling along the promenade. But I had to use the Apple adapter because they removed the 3.5mm jack in the iPhone 7P (which is still my phone). The Apple adapter has to be OEM for it to work. They have made sure of that.

These days I am not likely to buy anything new tech wise that requires a battery to operate. That's how they screw you over. Gone are the days where you could power anything handheld with a set of AA or AAA batteries.

Oh, something else I just discovered this afternoon that makes me fume is that none of the new Apple Silicon Macs is able to drive daisy chained Apple Thunderbolt displays without the need to buy a 3rd party display adapter (which Apple will probably nullify with an OS update soon). I use 2x 27" Thunderbolt displays on my 2018 Mac Mini, no problem.

I was going to buy an M1 MacBook Air at the end of the month to finally replace my 2012 MacBook Pro (which still works!) but now there's no ways I will do that.

A m1? They are at m3 allready. If nkg buying new the m2 was an upgrade if I recall.

"Upgrading" is very subjective when you are coming from a 2018 Intel i5. I don't like giving away my money to tech companies. If the computer or device is doing the job it was purchased for then I will use it until it can't be used anymore.

I was a little miffed to discover this morning that I can't install Photomator to my Mac Mini because I am not on a certain version of MacOS. Looked into upgrading the os to Sonoma and am not seeing positive remarks from Intel Mac users.

They can keep their Photomator.

Another reason to stay on old/low tech is all has AI chips these days. Anything "smart" is ultimately a surveillance tool. I'm looking forward into that rn. Google "has been with me" for to long..

Hi Dallas, all the M chip macs come as the M1,2 or 3, the M1, 2 or 3 Pro or the M1, 2 or 3 Max. From what I understand the Pro and Max versions will drive multiple monitors amongst other things. I use an M1 Pro macbook and that is how it was explained to me at time of purchase.

That I did not know. But it still irks because why would they not simply allow the technology to work on the lower model chips?

Anyway, I got my 2013 Mac Pro last week and so far I am loving it. It is capable of running up to 6 Thunderbolt displays without any limitations in that regard. The only thing I need to do is upgrade the internal SSD to a 2TB because external storage runs too slow on the USB ports and Thunderbolt 2 storage isn't readily available anymore.
